אודות
אמציה ברעם הוא פרופ' אמריטוס של אוניברסיטת חיפה. תואר הד"ר הוענק לו ב-1986 ע"י האוניברסיטה העברית בירושלים. נושא העבודה היה עיראק בשלטון הבעת' וצדאם חוסין. מאז לימד באוניברסיטה העברית, באוניברסיטת תל-אביב ובאוניברסיטת ג'ורג'טאון בושינגטון הבירה. בחיפה שרת כראש החוג ללימודי המזה"ת, כראש המרכז היהודי–ערבי והמכון ללימודי המזה"ת, היה מייסד וראש המרכז ללימודי–עיראק ומייסד–שותף והראש הראשון של מרכז עזרי ללימודי–איראן והמפרץ הפרסי. פרופ' ברעם שהה כחוקר בכיר במספר מרכזי-מחקר בינלאומיים. בין השאר היה עמית מחקר בכיר בסינט אנטוניס קולג' באוקספורד, במרכז רוקפלר בבלאג'יו, שלוש שנים במרכז וודרו ווילסון ושנתיים במכון האמריקאי לשלום בושינגטון הבירה. מאז 1986 ייעץ על עיראק לממשלים של רייגן, בוש, קלינטון, בוש ואובאמה. ספרו הראשון Culture, History, and Ideology in the Formation of Ba'thi Iraq יצא באוקספורד, לונדון וניו-יורק ב-.1991
בספרו האחרון עד-כה Saddam Husayn and Islam: Ba'thi Iraq From Secularism to Faith שיצא ב-2014 בושינגטון הבירה בהוצאת מרכז וודרו ווילסון ואוניברסיטת ג'ונס הופקינס עשה פרופ' ברעם שימוש נרחב במסמכי הפנטגון מארכיונו הפרטי של צדאם חוסין. פרופ' ברעם חוקר בעיקר את ההיסטוריה של עיראק במאות ה-20 וה-21 תנועות אסלאמיות רדיקאליות ומגמות בהיסטוריה אינטלקטואלית של המזרח התיכון. פירסם חמישה ספרים וכ-70 מאמרים במגזינים מקצועיים.
